Seaborne Stealers Soar Over National Guard Hummers 21-11

Nov. 13, 2007 — The Seaborne Stealers flew by the National Guard Hummers 21-11 in five innings Monday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.
In the first Bob Owens slow pitch softball league game of the night, the Stealers blew a close game wide open in the top of the third and never looked back.
Batting first, the Stealers plated three runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run shot by Freddie Pimentel and an RBI single off the bat of Ronald Schjang Jr. The Hummers answered with four runs on a two-run home run by Mervin Mills and RBI singles off the bats of Arthur Canaii and Neal Davis to lead 4-3 after one inning of play.
The Stealers retook the lead at 7-4 in the top of the second, plating four runs on two-run home runs by Sam Ramos and Enrique Soto. That lead again was short-lived, as the Hummers responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to claim their last lead at 9-7. They scored five runs on a three-run blast by Kai Schjang and a two-run single by Mills.
The Stealers then took the lead for good in the top of the third inning when they erupted for seven runs on a grand-slam home run by Ronald Schjang Jr. and a three-run shot by Eustace Davis to go up 14-9. The Hummers could only answer with one run on a Neal Davis home run, and they trailed 14-10 at the end of three completed innings.
A two-run home run by Owen Pimentel and a two-run single by Eric Flynn extended the Stealers lead to 18-10 in the top of the fourth. The Hummers had no answer in the bottom of the inning.
The Stealers lead was extended to 21-10 in the top of the fifth as they came up with three more runs on RBI singles by Soto, Ronald Schjang and Guido Schjang. Needing to score two runs to avoid the 10-run mercy ruled, the Hummers came up one run short. They were only able to come up with one run on Neal Davis’ second home run, and the game was called at the end of the inning.
Stealers ace Sam Ramos picked up the win, while Leonard Frett got the loss for the Hummers. Top hitters for the Stealers were Ronald Schjang, 4 for 4 with a grand slam and six RBIs; Soto, 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs; Freddie Pimentel, 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs; and Ramos, 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
For the Hummers, Neal Davis went 3 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs; Mills went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs and Kai Schjang went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Defending champs Wyatt Heat thumped the Cartel 14-7 in the second game of the night, while Speak the Word Ministries crushed Anchor Dive 16-6 in the nightcap.
