Oct. 23, 2007 — Tempo, the Caribbean's music and entertainment network, is gearing up for its two-year anniversary with a party set for Nov. 10 at the Rudolph Schulterbrandt Agricultural Complex on St. Croix.
Presented by the V.I. Department of Tourism and numerous local sponsors, the event will feature Caribbean artists, focusing on Tempo's "Badness Outta Style" campaign.
The campaign will be the central theme in the Tempo Turns Two celebrations. Tempo personnel will visit five schools throughout St. Croix on Nov. 6 and 7 to promote its anti-violence message to young people. The visits aim to teach youth about the dangers of violence and to promote a "One Love" philosophy, according to a Tempo news release.
Reggae star Luciano will headline the event. Other performers include Beres "Putting up A Resistance" Hammond, Mr. King, Cecile, Krosfyah, Mr. Vegas, Ziggy Ranking, Jovi Rockwell, Ronnie Benjamin Sr., Niyorah, Jahman, Danny I of Red I Band, Spectrum, and JDPP Jammerz. DJ Poppy Pops and the De Kamp will spin music between sets. In addition to the weekends entertainment, Tempo Turns Two sponsor Caribbean Auto Mart of St. Croix will give away a new Subaru 2.5 SI to a ticket holder at the show.
Tickets are $25 with a student ID at the University of Virgin Islands bookstores or $40 through Nov. 10 at various outlets. VIP tickets are $125, which include covered concert seating, dinner and an open bar. Tickets will be priced higher at the gate. Tickets for the VIP Pre-Party are $100 and are only available at the Reichhold Center. Call 771-8362 for more information.
Parking for the Tempo show won't be nearly the problem it was last year, since the show will be at the Agricultural Fair Grounds with parking all around. Last year many fans complained about the late start and lack of time devoted to live music.
On St. Croix, tickets are for sale at Alliance Clothing, Essentric Shoe Store, Hilarie's Beauty Spot, Innovative Business Office, LaReine Chicken Shack, Riddims, The Sand Bar, Urban Threadz, UVI Bookstore, Paris Tees and Novelties, One Love Service Station, Panchos, Magic Kitchen. On St. Thomas they are available at Reichhold Center for the Arts, Modern Music, Parrot Fish Records, Smith's Ferry, Urban Threadz, UVI Bookstore, VI Bridal and Tuxedo and on St. John The Connections.
Envisioned by Frederick Morton Jr. and launched by Viacom's MTV Networks, Tempo brings the Caribbean vibe to Viacom's roster of targeted cable networks which includes MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, and Spike TV, by representing every island.
"I am eternally grateful for the love of my home, the United States Virgin Islands, St. Croix, for giving me the fuel that drives the Tempo movement," Morton said, according to the release. "I want to give back and celebrate the community that raised me and sparked the Tempo. Love you like cook food."
