Dear Source:
The rigor with which members of the senate are trying to deter Dr. Lynn M. Spampinato's appointment to the Department of Education is ridiculous and uncalled for!
It is common knowledge that the USVI present day education system is a mockery, no thanks to previous commissioners. Interestingly enough these leader(s) were given the chance to reform the system not once but twice, only to fail time and time again. Now fast forward to 2007, our current governor has sought out and brought in a reform agent. Why not give Dr. Spampinato the same opportunity to change our fledgling system? Her goals are clear and openly communicated: 1) create a uniform curriculum; 2) develop vocational education programs; 3) address facilities issues; 4) properly manage the spending of local and federal funds; 5) ensure qualification of local teachers; and 6) understand why USVI is unable attract viable recruits.
Dr. Spampinato brings transparency, experience, passion and commitment to this position – – this alone sets her apart from her predecessors! This is madness and we as Virgin Islanders should all rally to support someone who has the interest of our future in her hands. Remember our children are our future and right now the outlook is not too good. All VI massive need to regroup and rally behind improving the state of our educational system and become trailblazers across north America.
