Sunset Jazz to Feature Singer Judi Fricks

July 18, 2007 – Sunset Jazz has returned to Frederiksted Waterfront, and beginning on July 20, it will have its first event on a new stage located on the waterfront promenade in Verne I. Richards Veterans Park. Jazz vocalist Judi Fricks will appear at 6 p.m., on Friday, July 20.
Raised in church by her missionary parents, Judi began singing at the ripe age of four. She moved to St. Croix with her family in 1982 when she was 15. After attending Oklahoma City University, a performing arts school, she moved back to St. Croix in 1999.
Since returning, Fricks has performed in one musical at CCT (Spitfire Grill) and is a regular performer in their A & E shows. She also has two Wine, A Woman and Song shows to her credit. Although not a traditional jazz singer, her gospel roots and pop style combine to make a unique, soulful infusion. She will be accompanied by her favorite jazz musicians: Marsvyn David, musical director and bass guitarist; Elvis Pedro, lead guitarist; and Toby Derima, drummer.
July's jazz concert will also welcome representatives from the LifeStyles Festival of the Virgin Islands. They will be on site to perform blood pressure screenings, distribute health related brochures and let you in on all of the events scheduled for their festival on St. Thomas.
The free concerts are a family affair and run from 6-8 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to bring along folding chairs or blankets for seating. FEDA will have its drink concession going, with proceeds helping to offset the costs of the concert, so Please Be Cool: No Coolers!
Sunset Jazz is sponsored and hosted by The Frederiksted Economic Development Association Inc. (FEDA), which is joined in its efforts to present these concerts by FirstBank VI, BeachSide Cafe' at Sand Castle on the Beach Hotel, and WTJX/Channel 12, the Virgin Islands' local PBS station, which assists every month through their taping of Sunset Jazz, airing on Channel 12, at 8 p.m., on Saturdays. WVIQ/Sunny 99.5 FM is the Official Radio Station of Sunset Jazz
