GERS Scholarships Available to Qualifying Students

April 5, 2007 — For the 10th year, scholarships will be presented by the Government Employees Retirement System (GERS) to dependents of the GERS membership, announced GERS board chairman Vincent Liger.
Funded through the goodwill and generosity of the GERS investment managers, a scholarship trust fund was established at GERS in 1992 for the benefit of dependents of GERS membership.
The scholarships provide tuition support for four years, for students enrolled full time in a program leading to the award of a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.
Candidates for scholarships will be selected from qualifying graduates of the territory’s high schools.
Finalists will be selected from each island, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Up to three scholarships may be awarded.
To be eligible to apply, a student must be the child, stepchild or legal dependent of a contributing member of GERS, be a graduating senior of a high school in the territory, and have a grade point average of no less than 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
All nominees must show financial need.
