Update: Wounded Student Recovering from Surgery

Feb. 5, 2007 — A student shot early Monday afternoon at Charlotte Amalie High School is out of surgery and recovering "comfortably," according to officials from the Department of Education.
The student, a 10th grader at CAHS, was shot on the school's campus around 2 p.m. Monday, Police said. Emergency personnel rushed him to Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. Two minors have been arrested and detained in connection with the shooting, according to a Police news release issued Monday evening.
In another news release, acting St. Thomas-St. John Superintendent of Schools Lisa Hassell-Forde said officials are "relieved" that the "injuries were not more serious and the surgery was successful."
"We ask that the community keep the student and his family in their prayers," she added. "And our gratitude goes out to the emergency personnel, doctors and others who attended to the student as well."
