Two Inter-Island Ferry Services Begin Next Week

Feb. 6, 2006 – St. Thomas residents who want to visit St. Croix over President's Day weekend will have two ferry services to choose from.
The Virgin Islands Fast Ferry today announced they will be providing inter-island service between St. Thomas and St. Croix in time for the 2006 Agrifest and the monthly Sunset Jazz concert series.
In a press release, general manager Allison Nolan said ferry service would begin on Feb. 15, and continue through Feb. 21.
In November, operators of the V.I. Fast Ferry said that they would not resume inter-island service because of competition. (See "V.I. Fast Ferry Suspends Service in the Wake of Competition".)
The Lynx Cat also begins serving the islands on Feb. 15, as Island Lynx Ferry Company announced last week. The Lynx Cat is scheduled to operate year-round.
Round trip fares on the V.I. Fast Ferry are $77 for adults and $65 for children. Round trip fares on the Lynx Cat are $78 for adults, $73 for senior citizens, $68 for children 3 to 11 and students with ID, and $28 for children under 3 years old. Groups of 10 or more traveling together receive a 15 percent discount. The fares include port fees.
Reservations are strongly recommended for the Fast Ferry and can be made by calling (877) 733-9425.
Passengers can purchase Island Lynx advance tickets beginning Wednesday with a credit or debit card by calling Southerland Tours at 773-9500 or the Travel Desk at 773-8220.
