Remembering Coretta Scott King

I saw a restful face that day
My emotions were at the gate
Of turmoil
And my faith beneath the feet
Of an oppressive giant –
Racism
In that face laid the contentment
For the many souls that were
Scattered on the streets of America
Where a kind of peacefulness dropped
From the sky as rain
In the pew I sat contentedly
Eyes fixed on the dream –
This manifested itself
From the strength of my bosom
From the strength of rearing
Fatherless children
I had made that journey
Along side the man I believed
Had the message to set the nation
On a healing pathway
I stood strong in the midst
Of the oppressors, walking the
Plank with hope, grace, and the
Realization that while there is life there was
Hope.
