Oct. 20, 2005 – On Saturday, Oct. 22, volunteers will celebrate the spirit of community service by participating in the United Way of St. Thomas-St. John annual "Day of Caring." It was created eight years ago to link people with group volunteer project opportunities.
This year volunteers are needed to work during a four-hour period to improve and beautify the Winston Raymo Community Center. Projects include painting and landscaping the front of the center, painting the newly-installed bleachers, and planting trees and sprucing up the playground. United Way is working in collaboration with the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation, and local businesses and organizations to secure the necessary resources for the event, says a press release from United Way.
"United Way's Day of Caring is a community-wide effort to let people see first-hand how a little caring can significantly make a difference," said Raymond Green, president of the United Way.
