Another Response to Magbie's Letter

Dear Source:
I am a Canadian living in a rural area of Cape Breton Island in Nova
Scotia. Our history and culture is very different than the history and
culture of the Caribbean. But the important problem of gentrification
brought on by outsiders, who drive up the price of land and skew the
economy thus forcing local residents to move away, is exactly the same
here. I commend Mr. Magbie for describing the problem so well.
Unfortunately, many governments encourage the problem because of the
quick rise in property values and tax dollars and the side benefit of
no longer having to deal with the needs of ordinary people.
Sincerely yours,
David Rasmussen
