Public Hearings on V.I. Status to be Held This Week

Sept. 12, 2005 — Meetings to consider legislation on municipal government and initiative and recall initially scheduled for June have been rescheduled for this week.
The two proposed bills can prepare the public to make a meaningful decision on the future status of the Virgin Islands, a release from Sen. Shawn-Michael Malone, chairman of the Rules and Judiciary Committee, said.
"The significance of public hearings is paramount to the legislative process and this new schedule of these public hearings will acquire more input to the process," the release went on to say.
Meetings will be held as follows:
Wednesday, Sept. 14 6 p.m.
Lagoon Street Complex
Frederiksted
Thursday, Sept. 15 6 p.m.
Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall
St. Thomas
Friday, Sept. 16 6 p.m.
St. John Legislature
Cruz Bay
Anyone interested in testifying should contact Cheryl Hydman at 693-3536. All those who have already placed their name on the list need not do so again, the release said.
