Public Meetings on Public Water Systems Grants Scheduled

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), Division of Environmental Protection (DEP) is making available, for a thirty (30) day public comment period, its Intended Use Plan (IUP) for fiscal years 2003, 2004 & 2005 Drinking Water Capital Improvement Grant allotments. The thirty days will run from June 1, 2005 to June 30, 2005. During the thirty (30) day public comment period, DPNR/DEP will hold two public meetings on this issue.
The 1st public meeting will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 on St. Croix at Gertrude’s Restaurant at 6:00 P.M.
The 2nd public meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 on St. Thomas at Palms Court Harbour View’s Lisa/Leah Room at 6:00 P.M.

A total of $3,444,442 will be made available to the territory’s public water systems. This grant may provide assistance only to expenditures (not including monitoring, operation and maintenance expenditures) of a type or category which will facilitate compliance with the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations applicable to public water systems or to significantly further the health protection objectives of these regulations.
The public is asked to provide comments on the intended use of the monies as detailed in the IUP. Your comments will be taken into consideration for the finalization of the IUP. You are asked to kindly pick up copies of the IUP at the addresses below. No comments will be accepted after 5:00pm on June 30, 2005.
