Oct. 22, 2004 The United Way Day of Caring planned for Saturday at Julius E. Sprauve School on St. John has been postponed until Nov. 13 due to anticipated bad weather.
Volunteers had planned to spruce up the Winston Wells Ball field, located next to the school, and start construction on a pocket playground at the Clarice Thomas Annex. The annex sits across the street from the ball field.
The work at the Winston Wells Ball field includes plastering and painting the dugout and walls around the field. Benches for the dugouts will be built and the front of the school landscaped.
Hammond said several St. Thomas groups were planning to participate.
"But it should be bigger and better on the 13th," she said.
The Civil Air Patrol, which was scheduled to work on the St. John project, will meet instead at 9 a.m. at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School in St. Thomas. Uniforms are not required.
To volunteer for the Day of Caring, call the United Way at 774-3185 or the St. John Community Foundation at 693-9410.
