Death of Former V.I. Official Alphonso Holder Noted

June 22, 2004 – Condolences to the family and friends of Alphonso A. Holder were expressed on Monday by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull.
Holder, of St. Thomas, was commissioner of Property and Procurement in the Melvin Evans administration, beginning in 1969. He was a longtime community activist who had been a member of the Progressive Guide Party from 1940, the governor said.
He also held the positions of executive secretary of the Legislature and business manager for the Health Department.
Holder's "diligent efforts, invaluable service and deep concern for the betterment of his fellow men and women have left an indelible mark on the people of the territory and will serve as a lasting tribute," Turnbull said.
Survivors include Holder's wife, Blanch.
