May 28, 2004 -Twenty-two Charlotte Amalie High School students will graduate from the first Medical Explorers program at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital on Tuesday, June 1.
A graduation ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. that day in the Sun Room next to the hospital cafeteria.
"These 22 students are the first to complete a valuable 10-week program that introduces them to careers in health care. Hopefully, many of them will choose a career in the medical field as a result of their experience and choose to work at the Schneider Hospital," Rodney E. Miller Sr., hospital chief executive officer, stated in a release.
The Medical Explorers program is designed to offer young adults the opportunity to learn different facets of health care by exposing them to various services and mentors at the hospital. Many took part in projects and demonstrations related to fields in diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, financial services, lab work, nursing and physical therapy.
Bennie Donastorg and Trisha James served as hospital coordinator and assistant coordinator for the program. At Tuesday's ceremony, the hospital will be acknowledging the various employees who have mentored these students.
