UVI to Observe Carnival Recess April 30 – May 2

The University of the Virgin Islands will observe Carnival Recess
from Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2. The University will be closed
during this period. Classes will resume and University offices will re-open
on Monday, May 3.

UVI Carnival Troupe Practices Continue; Carnival T-shirts For
Sale

Mandatory practices for all members of the UVI Carnival Troupe will
be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at the Dining Pavilion on the St.
Thomas campus. Costume distribution and the final practice will be held at
6 p.m. on Friday, April 23 at the Dining Pavilion. All members who have
outstanding fees are asked to pay them this week.

UVI Carnival T-shirts are $10 (all sizes) and are available at the
St. Thomas campus Chancellor's Office or the President's Office.

UVI Financial Aid Offices to Close for Training on April 27

UVI Financial Aid Offices on both the St. Croix and St. Thomas
campuses will be closed on Tuesday, April 27, to allow all staff to attend
mandatory U.S. Department of Education training in Puerto Rico. For more

UVI Nursing Students to Display Posters at Tutu Park Mall on April
28

UVI Bachelor of Nursing Science students will present a poster
display on injury prevention among children in the center court of the Tutu
Park Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28. The goal of this
project is to expand knowledge of injury prevention while promoting
preventative health as an essential component of childcare. Posters will be
displayed on a wide range of topics including stranger danger, sun safety,
safety around animals, choking prevention, first aid and car seat safety.

UVI Registration for Fall 2004 Continuing Through Sunday, May
9

The University of the Virgin Islands on-line registration for
continuing students for the Fall 2004 semester is continuing through May 9.
Returning UVI students register via the Internet using personal
identification numbers (PINs) that are provided by faculty advisors. They
access registration forms by logging on to: target="_blank">http://banweb.uvi.edu. Students who need a PIN should
contact their advisors. Individuals experiencing difficulties with on-line
registration should contact the Registrar's Office at 693-1160 on St.
Thomas or the Academic Services Office at 692-4158 on St. Croix.

STARFest 10 Tickets Going Fast; Anniversary T-Shirts Offered With
Purchase

Tickets are going fast for the Reichhold Center's upcoming STARFest
10, according to Reichhold Business Manager Pamela Sanes. She encouraged
fans to purchase tickets as soon as possible to make sure they get
preferred seating. Sanes also announced that – while supplies last – each
person who purchases a STARfest ticket at the Reichhold Box Office will
receive a free STARfest 10th Anniversary t-shirt. STARFest, often referred
to as "The Virgin Islands' Best Show," returns to the stage on
May 8 and 9 with 8 p.m. shows that Director David Edgecombe promises will
have "more pizzazz than ever before." Tickets are $25, $18 and

UVI Web-Only STARFest Ticket Contest Slated for May 6

UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts and the UVI Announcements web
page will give away six tickets to STARFest 10 in a web-only contest
scheduled for Thursday, May 6. UVI employees should mark their calendars to
check the May 6 issue of UVI Announcements (UVI Bulletin Board for
off-campus employees).

noon. Videoconferenced in Chase Auditorium (Business Education room 110) on
the St. Thomas campus and the Theater (Evans Center room 401) on St. Croix

St. Croix Students, Others Honored at Awards Program

Congratulations to students and others on the St. Croix campus who
were recognized for their achievements during the Awards Program held
Saturday evening. Among those who were recognized for having the highest
Grade Point Averages in their respective classes were Fields Group Class
Award Winners: freshman Annieva C. McFarlane (4.0 GPA), sophomore Dwight E.
Nicholson (4.0 GPA), junior Akilah A. Moe (3.91) and senior Michelle
Hemlepp (4.0 GPA).

St. Thomas Students Advised on Mail Box Key Return Policies

The Student Affairs Office on the University of the Virgin Islands'
St. Thomas campus has announced that Monday, May 17, is the deadline to
return mailbox keys. Student summer mail can be picked up from the Student
Activities Office when summer classes are in session. Students not
returning for the fall semester are reminded to leave self-addressed labels
to allow mail forwarding to U.S. addresses. Students should also begin
notifying mail senders of their change of address, including the effective

St. Thomas Campus Academic Awards Program Set for May 6

The 2004 Academic Awards program on UVI's St. Thomas campus is
scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, at the Sports and Fitness Center.
The program will honor top students in each grade level and include the
presentation of major scholarships. A reception will follow. For more
information contact Associate Chancellor Dr. Doris Battiste at 693-1121.

Golden Key Induction Ceremony Set for May 4 on St. Croix

The University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas and St. Croix campus
chapters of the Golden Key International Honor Society are celebrating
their 10th anniversaries this year. An induction ceremony and dinner for
the St. Croix campus chapter will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4,
at the Carambola Beach Resort. Fifteen new members are scheduled to be
inducted. Everyone who plans to attend the induction and dinner must RSVP
by April 23 to Chapter Advisor Miriam Osborne-Elliott at 692-4187. To
become a member of the society students must have a minimum grade point
average of 3.3. Seventeen students were inducted into St. Thomas campus
Golden Key chapter on April 4.

Mathematics Skills Final Exams Set May 7 on St. Thomas

The final exam for students taking Mathematics Skills classes on the
St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on May 7, 2004. The exam
will be offered in the CA Building. For more information call 693-1253. The
final exam schedule for St. Croix campus students will be announced when it
becomes available.

UVI Spring Concert Set for May 8 at Charlotte Amalie High
School

The University of the Virgin Islands Music Area wi
ll present its
annual Spring Concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at the Charlotte Amalie
High School auditorium. The concert is titled "An Evening at the Opera
and Broadway." It will feature familiar tunes like the
"Habanera" and "Summertime." Well known songs from
Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," and
"Pocahontas" will also be performed. The UVI Concert Choir, St.
Thomas Community Voice Students and the UVI Concert Band will also be
featured. Tickets – $10 for adults and $5 for students – are available at
the UVI Bookstore and Humanities Division, Krystal and Gifts Galore in Tutu
Park Mall and Dockside Bookshop at Havensight Mall.

Class of 2004 Schedules Spring Ball on May 15

The St. Thomas campus graduating class of 2004 will hold a spring
ball – "A night of Sheer Elegance" – at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May
15, at the Westin Hotel on St. John. The ball is sponsored by the class'
Social and Cultural Committee and the UVI Alumni Affairs Office. Tickets
are $35 until May 3 and $40 thereafter. Tickets are available from
graduating class members, the Student Affairs Office and from Dockside

Upward Bound Slates Youth Role Model Luncheon on May 16

The Parents Association of UVI's Upward Bound college preparation
program on the St. Thomas campus will host the 14th Annual Youth Role Model
Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach
Resort. Youth role model honorees are: Keli Chongasing of All Saints
School, Cara Lee Williams of Antilles School, Jevauhn Jones of Charlotte
Amalie High School, Shatel Francis of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Jamie
Steffens of Sts. Peter and Paul High School, Keridon Williams of
Seventh-Day Adventist School, Kharina John of Wesleyan Academy and Angela
Gumbs of the Upward Bound Program. Tickets are $35 and are available from
honorees and at the Upward Bound office, room 100 H of the Classroom
Administration Building, on UVI's St. Thomas campus.
