Feb. 14, 2003 — Inspection has been completed of facilities on St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island that were damaged in the November heavy rains, Ira R. Mills, the governor's authorized representative for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said.
As of Feb. 13, "eligible grant funding from FEMA
is $963,554," Mills said in a release, and the success of the territory's participation in the preliminary damage assessment from that event has resulted in Gov. Charles W. Turnbull receiving a disaster declaration by U.S. President George W. Bush.
Subgrants to applicable entities under the FEMA Public Assistance Program are expected to be issued very shortly," Mills said. He thanked his staff in the Office of Management and Budget's public assistance unit, and FEMA, for their diligence in expediting the inspections.
