Jan. 5, 2004 — Look for intermittent rain and gusty winds until at least Friday, said Andy Roche, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in San Juan.
"The high pressure over the Atlantic is strong and the isobars are closer to each other," Roche said as he discussed Monday's weather. The tightly packed isobars indicate a greater concentration of high pressure.
Winds should reach 15 to 20 mph.
At 10:30 a.m. Monday, Weather Station Zephyr in Coral Bay reported that .27 inches of rain had fallen since midnight. The temperature, observed as rain was falling, stood at 69 degrees. Just 15 minutes later, the sun peaked out.
Weather Service data shows that the average minimum temperature in January at Cruz Bay in St. John stands at 69.6 degrees. The average maximum runs 83.8. The average total rainfall for January is 2.59 inches.
In Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, the average minimum temperature for January runs 72.1. The average maximum sits at 85.5 degrees. The average rainfall is 1.85 inches.
In Christiansted, St. Croix, the average minimum temperature is 71.1 degrees. The maximum is 83 degrees. The average rainfall runs 2.02 inches.
Roche said that overnight the temperature in Puerto Rico's mountainous regions dropped to 52 degrees.
