Oct. 1, 2003 – Motorists who deliberately detoured to avoid construction work on the western portion of Polyberg Road on Wednesday needn't have done so.
Those who don't on Sunday will wish they had.
Late Monday afternoon, the Public Works Department issued a "revised release" changing the date for the work that will close the stretch of road between the traffic light at the Domino Oil gas station and the traffic light at the J. Antonio Jarvis School Annex.
The road was open to traffic as usual on Wednesday. It will be closed for the construction work on Sunday, according to the revised release.
The closing is so that the section of road west of Charlotte Amalie High School "may be stripped," Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said. The release asked motorists "to use alternate routes to enable the department to expedite the completion of this project."
