AIRPORT SECURITY HEIGHTENED BECAUSE OF ALERT

Feb. 7, 2003 – With the nation on high alert for terrorism attacks, the Port Authority has heightened security at all of the territory's ports of entry.
A release from VIPA Friday night said a vehicle checkpoint would be established immediately at Cyril E. King Airport and that VIPA law-enforcement personnel would step up airport patrols at Henry E. Rohlsen Airport.
The federal Office of Homeland Security alert charges Category X, 1 and 2 airports with establishing checkpoints, the release said.
Cyril E. King is a Category 2 airport. Henry E. Rohlsen is a Category 3.
Security was to be tightened at all marine ports, too. Police officers will be patrolling established marine checkpoints.
Vehicles and travelers entering the airports will be subject to increased security scrutiny and are therefore urged to plan to arrive a minimum of two hours prior to departure time.
