DAVID AND DALLAS WIN ROAD RACES ON ST. CROIX

Jan. 5, 2003 – A smorgasbord of three races in four days on St. Croix lured a number of St. Thomas residents across the water. Ruth Ann David took first in the Three Kings Mile on Saturday, and Calvin Dallas topped the field in the V.I. International Marathon, run on New Year's Day.
Billy Bohlke and Ruth Ann David are the fastest middle-distance runners in the Virgin Islands. They proved it on Saturday in the annual Three Kings Mile Road Race, which serves as the kick-off of the annual Crucian Festival Parade.
Bohlke, a recent graduate of Louisiana University, the current Division I NCAA track and field champions, took the lead going to the quarter-mile mark in 70 seconds. He hit the halfway mark at 2:10 and never gave it up, cruising across the finish line at the Scale House on King Street in 4 minutes 34 seconds.
St. Croix's Greg Johnson came in second, and Morgan Locke, a top St. Croix Marlins swimmer and Country Day School student, was the first high school male finisher and third overall.
Ruth Ann David, a member of the V.I. National Cross-Country Team and Central America and Caribbean National Team, was the first-place female, finishing in a time of 5:20.49. She was followed by Rachel Witty, racing in her Carnival costume, and Theresa Harper, not yet recovered from her winning marathon performance earlier in the week.
Calvin Dallas' time of 3:03.19 took top honors in the 2nd St. Croix International Marathon. He was followed by Leopold Fredericks of St. Croix and Bill Lese of Maryland. Theresa Harper of St. Croix came in first for the ladies. She was followed by Jo Shim, who won a $1,000 raffle after qualifying by running in four St. Croix races, and Susan Daley of Chicago.
