PUBLIC HOUSING RENT STATEMENTS DELAYED

Dec. 10, 2002 – December rent statements for public housing community residents will be late, the V.I. Housing Authority's director, Ray Fonseca, said in a release on Tuesday. He said the agency expects to correct the problem within the next two weeks.
Fonseca said the Housing Authority's difficulty in converting to a new software program is at fault and that residents received inaccurate monthly rent and balance statements in November.
He said public housing community residents should visit the property management office where they live to have statements prepared manually and to pay their rent. Rent must be paid via check or money order.
Last week, Fonseca sent out a release advising landlords, agents and tenants involved in the federal Section 8 housing program that their December checks would be late. Citing computer technical problems, he said then that he expected those checks to go out by this Wednesday.
Fonseca did not return a telephone call on Tuesday requesting more information.
