E-COMMERCE ROUNDTABLE SET FOR FRIDAY

Jan. 28. 2002 – STAR Consulting in conjunction with the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce is hosting an executive round table discussion on e-commerce led by William DeLone, University of the Virgin Islands visiting professor of information technology, Friday morning.
DeLone, a UVI faculty member from 1970 to 1986, is currently an associate professor of information systems in the Kogod School of Business at American University in Washington, D.C. where he directs its graduate Management of Global Information Technology (MoGIT) program.
DeLone's teaching specialties include management information systems, strategic management of information technology, e-business, and enterprise resource planning systems. His primary areas of research include assessment of information system effectiveness and value, implementation and use of information technology in small and medium-sized businesses, global management of information technology, and information technology in higher education.
Currently serving as special assistant to the president of UVI, DeLone is assisting with the development and implementation of the university's strategic plan. He is playing a leadership role in UVI's plan to create a Research and Technology Park on St. Croix and also is involved in the school's information technology work force training initiative. He also is teaching a graduate MBA course in information systems.
Friday's discussion will center on improving a business through information technology. It's intended to answer basic questions such as what e-business is, what its benefits are, and what its challenges are and how they can be met.
The discussion will be held in the chamber board room and will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Continental breakfast will be available.
