V.I. JR TRACK TEAM MEDALS IN LEEWARD MEET

The Virgin Islands National Junior Track Team recorded very successful performances in the Leeward Islands Junior Championships held in the British Virgin Islands last weekend.
The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation also announced that it will send a Virgin Islands National Youth Team to Nevis this coming weekend for the Leeward Islands Youth Championships.
Gold medal performances were recorded by Evilise Gomez in the under-17 girls 100 meters, with a time of 12.73 and in the 200 meters with a time of 26.24; Corine Hutchinson finished seventh; . Morlene Dore won two gold medals, one in the shot put and one in the discus. In addition she won the silver medal in the javelin, in what is believed to be the first time any V.I. athlete has won three medals in the field events in a championships.
Kevin Maynard won the bronze medal in the under-20 male 400 meters with a time of 51.83; Edric Robinsion was fifth in 55.11; Amalie Lockart won the silver in the under-17 boys 1500 meters in 4:45.40; Jermaine Allen was fourth in the under-20 male 1500 meters in 4:47.68; Charley Charles took bronze medal in the under-17 girls 1500 meters in 5:36.25; Sherma Aurelin took the silver medal in the under-20 female 400 meters in 59:94; Ximara Gomez finished fourth in the 400 and 200 meters; Michael Brown won the silver medal in the under-20 male shot put and sixth in the discus; Natlie O'Neal finished fourth in the under-20 female 100 meters in 12.93; Anika Henry finished seventh; Kamin Francis finished third in the male under-20 100 meters in 11.73 and fifth in the 200 meters; Bobby Gibson finised seventh; Julian Pierre finished sixth in the under-17 boys 400 meters in 58.65 and Henry Powell finished eight; Tyfia Lee finished fifth in the under-17 girls 400 meters and Sylvester Morrell finished sixth. Alejandro Quinones finished eight in the under-17 boys 200 meters.
In the relay events, the V.I. male under-20, 4 x 100 team finished third in 46.01and fourth in the open 4 x 400 meters (Elric Robinson, Kamin Francis, Amalee Lockhart and Kevin Maynard) and the girls under-17, 4 x 100 team finished fourth in 53.30. The V.I. female 4 x 400 team finished third in 4:15.68 (Xiamara Gomez, Nathalie O'Neal, Evelise Gomez and Sherma Aurelin).
The team was coached by: Devon Peters, Dale Joseph and Linda Garaway. National teams competing in the Leeward Islands Championships include: The British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts; Nevis; Antigua, Monsterrat; St. Maarten; Anguilla.
