March 29, 2001 Michael Manley Foundation Scholarship grants for 2001 are now available, the Department of Tourism announced.
The grants are issued in conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organization, which was formed in 1997 to assist in the development of highly skilled Caribbean tourism professionals.
The Foundation is named in memory of Jamaica's late Prime Minister. The grants are intended for persons pursuing any post secondary level of studies in the tourism or hospitality industry.
The grants are also available to persons currently working in the industry for whom having a second language would be an asset in their job, and who want to improve their proficiency in English, French or Spanish in a Caribbean country speaking any of those languages.
Funding for the grants has been supplied by American Airlines, American Express, Architectural Digest through a partnership with the world Studio Foundation, Travel Agent Magazine, CTO chapters, and various CTO fund-raising events.
Application kits are available at the Tourism Department at 774-8784, 776-6450 on St. Thomas or 773-0495 on St. Croix. Applications are also available online at the CTO website www,caribtourism.com
Deadline for submitting applications for a grant or a scholarship is April 27, 2001. Winners will be announced by May 2001 at the latest.
