MAN HIT, KILLED BY GOVERNMENT VEHICLE

A government vehicle, being operated after business hours, struck and killed a pedestrian Friday night.
Raul Colon, 38, was killed as he crossed a poorly lit intersection on the Melvin Evans Highway at about 8:30 p.m., according to Lt. William Harvey of the V.I. Police Department.
The vehicle, a full-sized Ford Bronco, was registered to the Department of Property and Procurement. The name of the driver was not immediately released.
Harvey said an investigation was underway to determine whether the driver had the right of way or if speed was a factor. Investigators will also determine if the driver was authorized to be using the vehicle after normal business hours.
