V.I. NATIVE WILKINSON EXCELS IN NCAA BASEBALL

A former Elrod Hendricks West Little League all-star, Kurt Wilkinson, hit a grand slam in a Saturday doubleheader last week to help his New Mexico State Aggies sweep the Hofstra Flying Dutchmen in NCAA baseball. The Aggies improved their record to 21-5 for this season.
The 20-year-old leadoff hitter and center fielder tops his team in batting with a .478 average. Wilkinson also leads the team in RBIs with 37 and stolen bases with 13. In addition to his stellar offensive play, Wilkinson is demonstrating a golden touch with his glove. He has not committed any errors this season.
Wilkinson was a two-time Daily News Athlete of the Week. He also was a perennial little league all-star. During his 11-year-old and 12-year-old little league campaigns, he represented the Virgin Islands in the Latin American tournament in Mexico and Panama respectively.
Wilkinson played for the Radio One Pirates in little league and was coached by Doris Smith. When he moved up to senior little league he played for the AT&T PALS coached by Sidney Isaac.
Wilkinson left the Virgin Islands after his freshman year at Charlotte Amalie High School and attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. He was an all-state baseball athlete in his senior year.
Wilkinson is the son of Urla Wilkinson, a social sciences teacher at Charlotte Amalie High School and Sinclair Wilkinson, the principal of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.
