DRUG CHARGES FILED AGAINST PRISON GUARD

A Corrections Bureau prison guard was arrested Wednesday night on St. Croix after he was found in possession of marijuana and cocaine while en route to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
Trevor Looby, 41, was taken into custody during a traffic stop by agents of the Narcotics Strike Force, in the general vicinity of Central High School.
According to strike force sources, 1.5 ounces of marijuana and 4.3 grams of cocaine were found in Looby's car when he was stopped by strike force agents. He was formally charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Sources said Looby, a 12-year veteran of the Corrections Bureau, had been the target of joint surveillance by the strike force and the Justice Department when it became apparent that he was allowing contraband to be introduced into the prison.
Looby was placed on $10,000 bail following his arrest; an arraignment hearing was set for Oct. 25.
