TURNBULL APPROVES BLOCK GRANTS PROJECTS

Gov. Charles W. Turnbull on Monday signed into law a bill that would parcel out $2.45 million in grants and reprogrammed money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The money will be used to "fund vital eocnmic prjectes and services for the residents of the territory," Turnbull said in releasing the figures.
Here is a list of the programs and the amounts to be granted:
St. John
1. St. John Community Foundation after-school Program Operation of an after-school training and counseling program for youths at Julius Sprauve School, Cruz Bay, St. John, St. John Community Foundation, Inc.$20,000.
2. Disabled Training Program, St. John
Operation of an after-school program for the disabled at Julius Sprauve School, Cruz Bay, St John Virgin Islands Resource Center for the Disabled, Inc. $15,000.
St. Thomas
3. Disabled Training Program, St. Thomas
Operation of an after-school program for the disabled at #74-75 Kronprindsens Gade. Virgin Islands Resource Center for the Dlsabled Inc. $20,000.
4. Down Street after-school program. Operation of an after-school program for low to moderate income youths. Down Street People Inc. $25,000
5. Kidscope Crisis Intervention Program
Crisis Intervention, counseling and other support srvices to victims and their families. Kidscope Inc. $15,000
6. Anglican Outreach after-school program

23. Hurricane Georges DRI Matching Funds
Funds to be used to match $1.7 million in disaster recovery funds from Hurricane Georges. Funds will be used to install aluminum hurricane shutters to protect elderly residents at the Joseph E. James Terrace housing community on St. Croix. Virgin Islands Housing Authority. $ 85,000
24. Hurricane Georges DRI Matching Funds
Funds to be used to match $1.7 million in disaster recovery funds from Hurricane Georges. Funds will be used for hurricane shutters for the Juan Luis Hospital.
