WAPA ISSUES STORM PREPAREDNESS STATEMENT

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority issued a statement Monday morning, in advance of Tropical Storm Debby's expected passage through the region, that some service to electrical feeders may be interrupted during the storm.
Residents were also urged to stay away from downed power lines, which can be extremely dangerous.
WAPA also suggested:
– storing water in bathtubs and other containers before the storm;
– filling up vehicle gas tanks;
– buying nonperishable food products;
– having enough batteries and candles on hand;
– if electrical lines fall on top of a vehicle, shut the vehicle off but remain inside until WAPA officials make sure it's safe to exit;
– listen to the radio or other media for information.
Electrical emergencies and downed lines should be reported to 773-2550 on St. Croix; 774-1424 on St. Thomas and St. John.
