Tourism Commissioner Rafie Jackson is asking all boaters to organize a flotilla to welcome the Walt Disney Co.'s cruise ship, Disney Magic, on its inaugural St. Thomas visit Aug. 16.
In a release from Tourism Jackson said, "We are asking all interested boaters as well as government agencies with boats to join the welcome party."
Disney Magic is due to arrive at the pilot station behind Water Island at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 16, according to Jackson, "And we'd really like to give them a grand welcome," he said.
The ship, which was built in 1998, weighs in at 85,000 gross tons and can carry 2,400 passengers.
Jackson asked anyone who wanted more information to call 774-8784, ext. 2221.
