HIV/AIDS PREVENTION PROGRAM TO TAKE PLACE

The American Red Cross is hosting an HIV/AIDS informational meeting for homosexual men on St. Thomas and St. John. The meeting will take place in the AQ building conference room next to Club Millennium at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a release from the Red Cross, the meeting is designed to "empower and mobilize" gay and bi-sexual men who are infected with HIV. The meeting is also an opportunity for people to share concerns about their struggle with homophobia in the community.
According to the 1999 USVI HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, 15% of Virgin Islanders diagnosed with AIDS and 12% infected with HIV were homosexual men. Only 6% of the population was tested in 1999.
The Red Cross asks that participants bring ideas, suggestions, questions and complaints to this "long over due meeting." For more information call 774-0375.
