THOMAS AND THE MAGIC RAILROAD G-RATED FUN

Thomas and the Magic Railroad is an offshoot of the popular British TV series narrated by Ringo Starr.
Part model animation and part live feature, it doesn't quite come up to the previous series' standards. According to critics it is culturally confused by a very English countryside and a very American actor, Alec Baldwin who portrays the hero Mr. Conductor.
The story centers around the effort of the Evil Diesel to get rid of the cuddly steam-powered Thomas. The only one who can help Thomas the Tank Engine is the Lost Engine, a puffer called Lady whom Diesel drove off the tracks just where he wants to put Thomas. What will happen, oh dear.
Have faith. Thomas charms his way through difficulties with all the muster of a sturdy little steam engine. Baldwin is said to take to the role of Mr. C. like, well like he was steam rolled into it. The English countryside is beautiful and, what more could you ask?
Also starring Peter Fonda as the owner of Lady, the Lost Engine, the film is written and direct by Britt Allcroft, who is said to have made an entire career out of talking trains, though this is her first American endeavor.
It is rated G.
It starts Thursday at Sunny Isles Theaters.
