SOME HURRICANE LENNY CHECKS ARE IN THE MAIL

The Human Services Department mailed out Hurricane Lenny disaster assistance checks this week to applicants for assistance under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Individual and Family Grant program.
Virgin Islanders became eligible to seek assistance under the IFG program after a federal disaster was declared for the territory in the aftermath of the mid-November hurricane. The federally funded program is administered by the local government.
The checks, sent out Thursday, were to applicants who had been notified of their qualification for IFG assistance between Feb. 1 and 19, according to a Human Services release.
Checks were previously mailed to those notifed between Dec. 1 and Jan. 31. Anyone who received such notification but has not received a check should contact the Human Services IFG office at 774-0930, ext. 4133.
Grant applications are being processed for those individuals and families who were notified of acceptance between Feb. 20 and March 15, the release stated.
