19 DEMOCRATS SEEK 6 CONVENTION DELEGATE SEATS

Delegates to the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles will be selected Saturday in separate district caucuses on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
Democratic Party state chair James O'Bryan Jr. said the caucuses will meet from noon. to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Windward Passage Hotel on St. Thomas, and the Mid-Lands Restaurant on St. Croix.
A spirited campaign is under way for the delegate posts, O'Bryan said. Six convention delegates will be selected from the 19 running, three from St. Thomas and three from St. Croix. All candidates are pledged to support the presidential bid of Vice President Al Gore.
One woman and two men will be selected from the St. Thomas-St. John district, and one man and two women will be selected from St. Croix. All delegates have one-half vote.
The Virgin Islands has six total votes. Gov. Charles Turnbull and Delegate Donna Christian-Christensen have one vote each, and the four V.I. members of the Democratic National Committee have a quarter vote each.
O'Bryan said Democrats planning to vote should have their party registration with them.
