High winds may have been the cause of power outages on St. Croix Monday on feeders 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 10.
The unusually high winds definitely caused a large volume of trouble calls to the Water and Power Authority, according to WAPA spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds.
The authority is investigating what caused problems on feeder 10 that led to the outages on St. Croix.
On St. Thomas a surge early Tuesday morning caused problems at the East End substation at around 3 a.m. Power was restored to feeders 5 and 6 by 6 a.m., Simmonds said.
Problems with boilers 11 and 13 caused feeder 7 on St. Thomas to go down for several hours Tuesday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Simmonds said the engineers were also looking into the cause of the feeder 7.
In additional to outages, Simmonds said WAPA had a higher-than-average volume of trouble calls over the weekend due to trees being blown onto power lines by high winds.
An additional trouble-call crew was dispatched Sunday to expedite the restoration of power to areas affected by the damaged lines, according to a release from WAPA.
