Former Internal Revenue Director Joanne Bozzuto has been given a contract to provide technical assistance to the Department of Finance.
The contract came to light Monday during questioning of Finance Commissioner Bernice Turnbull by Sen. Gregory Bennerson at a Finance Committee hearing, according to Radio One news.
Bozzuto is reportedly responsible for coordinating the ongoing audit of government finances by mainland auditors and assisting Finance with property tax cases. No details of her contract emerged during the hearing.
Bozzuto was IRB director during much of the Schneider administration and briefly doubled as Finance commissioner as well. After she resigned from both posts, she became a consultant to the Lieutenant Governor's Office, dealing with tax issues. She is an accountant and an attorney.
