LATEST MARTIN P.R. UPDATE FOR V.I. AND ST. CROIX

V.I. Calling Seminars and Trade Shows Target Travel Agents on East Coast
The first series of Virgin Islands Calling educational seminars and trade shows will take place on the east coast, August 23-27, 1999. These seminars are offered by invitation only to select stateside travel agents to educate them about the USVI's latest offerings. Hoteliers from St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas will be on-hand to talk about their respective properties and encourage agents to book vacations to the territory for their clients. The trade shows will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., and dinner seminars will be held from 7:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Upcoming V.I. Calling seminars and trade shows will be held at the following venues: August 23, Holiday Inn in Tysons Corner, Va.; August 24, Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Md.; August 25, Valley Forge Hilton in King of Prussia, Pa.; August 26, The Inn at Ethan Allen in Danbury, Conn.; and August 27, Boston Marriott in Newton, Mass. Win a Return Trip to the USVI Through "Picture Yourself In Paradise" Photo Contest
Vacationers who participate in the territory's "Picture Yourself in Paradise" summer promotion can win a trip back to America's Paradise next year. A vacationer on each island will be selected to receive a return visit for two, including air travel to the USVI compliments of Delta Vacations and a five- night stay at a participating resort on St. Croix, St. John or St. Thomas. To enter the photo contest, vacationers should submit pictures of their USVI vacation experience. Any people featured prominently in the photos must be members of the contestants' respective party, who will be required to sign photo releases if their photo is chosen. Vacationers may submit up to five different photos with the following information included on the back of each photo: name, mailing address, daytime phone number and hotel or resort where vacationed. St. Croix's Comanche Restaurant Announces Changes and Additions
The Comanche Restaurant on St. Croix recently announced some changes and additions to better serve its patrons. The restaurant has created new menus highlighting regional Caribbean foods and using local ingredients. Menu items range from conch fritters to seafood pepperpot, along with dolphin creole and West Indian curries. In addition, nightly dinner specials, weekly lunch specials and daily drink specials are offered. Happy hour is available Tuesday through Friday and local steel pan bands perform on Fridays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Comanche Restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for dinner. Discover St. Croix Summer Vacation Camp Available for Visitors
The St. Croix Landmarks Society's Community Education Outreach Program will provide a Discover St. Croix Vacation Camp at Estate Whim Plantation Museum now through August 13, 1999. Children will learn about St. Croix's history while participating in cultural activities, making traditional foods and crafts and exploring the island with hikes and field trips. Open to children 8 to 13 years old, the camp offers two two-week sessions and two one-week sessions set under the theme "Self Determination and Self Reliance through Heritage Education."
