Waste Management Mitigating Effects of Sewage Flow

Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team informs the St. Thomas community of the its ongoing measures to mitigate the effects of the sewage flow affecting the homes and businesses in the vicinity of the Savan Gut. The Authority has performed temporary repairs, will begin point repairs, and has developed specifications to address permanent repairs to the hurricane damaged sewer lines.

VIWMA contractors are presently working in the upper Savan Gut area performing point repairs, removing debris at the location and disinfecting the area as needed. There is another breach downstream of the bridge near the Romeo Malone Community Center. Point repairs are scheduled at that location and the temporary work is anticipated to be completed within two weeks.

Updates will be provided as the repairs progress. Do not hesitate to contact the Authority at 712-4962.

For more information, contact the Office of Communications Management at 513-4171 or email communications@viwma.org. Also, follow VIWMA Facebook, LinkedIn and/or Twitter.
