Power Up With School Breakfast Program Looking for Superhero/ Deadline for Submissions is March 6

Feb. 9, 2009 – The St. Croix District School Lunch Program encourages K-12 students from public, private or parochial schools who participate in the district's breakfast program to compete in the Design a School Breakfast Superhero Contest, according to a press release from Yvette Edwards, acting director for the district's program.
"The Power Up with School Breakfast campaign features a team of superheroes who introduce students to the importance of eating a hearty and nutritious school breakfast every day. The contest challenges our students to depict and name their own school breakfast superhero and explain how their super powers will help children 'Power Up'," said Edwards. "This contest is one of several exciting programs being coordinated in the district that focuses on healthy lifestyles and wellness in celebration of National Nutrition Month and National Breakfast Week during the month of March."
The deadline for entries is Friday, March 6. Entries must be submitted to the student's respective school. The top three entries from the local contest will be awarded several prizes to include a day trip to St. Thomas, monetary awards and an art kit. The entries will be judged nationally by Friday, March 20. Three national winners will receive an illustration of their school breakfast hero signed by a professional artist and will be featured on the Power Up School Breakfast site.
To obtain entry forms, an official rules package or more information, contact Yvette Edwards at 773-1095, ext. 7132 or visit the national site at www.schoolbreakfast.org.
The campaign is sponsored by the School Nutrition Association (SNA).
