V.I. National Park Announces 'Fee Free Day' for Veterans

Nov. 7, 2007 – In recognition of Veterans Day, the Virgin Islands National Park has declared Sunday, Nov. 11, to be "Fee Free Day" for veterans and their families. On this day, the park will admit all U.S. Military veterans, current members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families to Trunk Bay Beach on St. John free-of-charge, according to a press release from V.I. National Park Superintendent Mark Hardgrove.
The superintendent said, "This day recognizes the sacrifice and service these men and women have made for our country, and for that we are grateful. The National Park Service is proud of Virgin Islands citizens who have served in the military and hope that they will bring their families to one of our special places in the park that they served to protect."
Trunk Bay Beach is one of the most visited beaches on St. John, and is home to an underwater trail where swimmers are able to snorkel over the reef and read the plaques, which identify coral and fish along the trail.
Visitors to Trunk Bay Beach during this Veterans Day weekend are encouraged to ride safari taxis or to carpool in order to avoid overcrowding in the Trunk Bay parking lot.
