Rahee Luzunaris, 21 of Estate Tutu, was shot Monday evening near the J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary School in Hospital Ground, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The victim was treated at Schneider Regional Medical Center. His condition was not known as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the hospital at 11 p.m. Monday after the 911 center received a call in regards to a shooting victim. Arriving at the hospital, officers made contact with Luzunaris, who had received gunshot wounds to the upper chest area.
He was then taken into surgery and was unable to provide a statement.
Officers from the Forensic Unit and Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the hospital and later located the crime scene just south of the School. The incident is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
