In Loving Memory of Ellen A. Daniel

With profound love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the remarkable life of Ellen A. Daniel, whose legacy of faith, perseverance, entrepreneurship, and service will continue to inspire generations. Ellen A. Daniel was born on June 26, 1927, in St. George’s Hill, Montserrat, British West Indies, to Mary Hussey and William Daniel. She spent her childhood in Montserrat, where she received her early education at the Roman Catholic Church School. From an early age, Ellen demonstrated a strong work ethic, determination, and an unwavering desire to create a better future.
At the age of fifteen, she migrated to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, with her beloved elder sister, Margaret White. There, she worked as a domestic helper for the Brown family.
She later moved to St. Thomas where she pursued her educational goals doing business classes at the University of the Virgin Islands. Ellen’s passion for business and commitment to excellence paved the way for many successful ventures. Her entrepreneurial spirit flourished, leading her to become a respected, successful restaurateur and she owned and operated several restaurants in Charlottle Amalie. She was the proud owner of Brothers Grocery Store. Later in life, she entered the insurance industry, where she enjoyed a distinguished career with American Bankers Life Insurance Company, retiring after years of dedicated services.
While Ellen’s accomplishments in business were many, her greatest devotion was to her faith and community. She was a faithful and active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from its inception, generously giving of her time, talents, and unwavering support. Her commitment to community service extended through her involvement with several organizations, including the Lions Club, AARP, Independent Living and the Cookie Point Swim Team, where she formed lasting friendships and positively impacted many lives.
Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mary Hussey and William Daniel; her siblings, John Barzey, Nancy A. Barzey, Sarah Barzey, Margaret White, John Daniel; James Daniel, Joseph (Jim) Daniel, George Daniel, and her beloved children, Ivis Simmons, Mavis Simmons, Bennett Daniel, and Derek Daniel.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children, Arthur V. Daniel and Sylvia E. Daniel, Seymour L. Bernier, Minerva V. Bernier. She is also survived by her dear siblings, William Daniel, Mary Daniel-Singleton, Elizabeth Daniel and Rebecca Morgan.
Ellen also leaves behind a loving legacy through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, daughters in law Yvette Daniel, Monica Dix-Bernier, Jascinth Bernier, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, wisdom, generosity, and unconditional love.
Those who knew Ellen will remember her as a woman of extraordinary resilience, unwavering faith, and boundless determination. She possessed a generous heart, an entrepreneurial mind, and a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home. Whether through her businesses, her church, her community service, or simply sharing a meal and conversation, she touched countless lives with grace and compassion. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the community she served, and the lives she transformed. Her life stands as a testament to hard work, faith in God, perseverance through adversity, and love for family.
