Sargassum Closes Lindquist Beach Through Monday

The Magens Bay Authority advises the public that Smith Bay (Lindquist Beach) will remain closed on Monday, July 6, due to the continued presence of excessive sargassum and unsafe beach conditions.

The Authority has been closely monitoring conditions throughout the holiday weekend. While cleanup efforts continue, a significant accumulation of sargassum remains along the shoreline, making it unsafe for public use.

For the safety of all visitors, swimming is strictly prohibited, and lifeguard services will not be availableย while the beach remains closed.

“Our team continues to monitor conditions at Smith Bay on a daily basis,” said Monique Simon, General Manager of the Magens Bay Authority. “Although conditions have improved slightly, there is still a substantial amount of sargassum on the beach. The safety of our residents and visitors remains our highest priority, and we will reopen the beach only when it is safe to do so.”

The Magens Bay Authority will continue to assess conditions and will provide updates regarding the reopening of Smith Bay (Lindquist Beach) as they become available.
