Two Arrested in Frederiksted Robbery Near Rainbow Beach

Two suspects were arrested Sunday night in connection with a robbery near Rainbow Beach in Frederiksted, St. Croix, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

The incident was reported to the 911 Emergency Call Center at about 8:34 p.m. Sunday in the Prosperity area. Responding officers made contact with a detective who had already detained T-ssadiq Joseph at the scene, according to the police report.

Police said their investigation found that Joseph and George Richards III forcefully took a victimโ€™s chain. Both suspects were positively identified and later arrested.

Richards, 18, and Joseph, 20, were advised of their Miranda rights and charged with robbery in the second degree and grand larceny. Bail for each was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, both men were remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing scheduled for April 7 in Superior Court, the police report stated.

In a statement, Assistant Commissioner Sean Santos said, โ€œThe Virgin Islands Police Department will not tolerate conduct that violates the standards, values, and ethical obligations expected of those who serve our community.โ€ He added that Joseph, identified as a Community Service Officer, is held to a high standard of integrity and public trust.
