Minor Charged After Attempted Robbery at Main Street Jewelry Store

A minor has been charged with attempted robbery after police detained four youths in connection with a reported robbery at Precious Jewelers on Main Street on St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

Police said the VITEMA 911 Call Center received a call at 12:10 p.m. Friday from a citizen who reported masked men inside the Precious Jewelers store. Officers and detectives responded and conducted inspections of the area for four masked males dressed in black, according to the police report.

During the search, officers detained four minor males dressed in black who fit the description and transported them to the Juvenile Bureau. The minorsโ€™ parents were present, and the youths were read their warning as to rights, which they waived before providing statements, the police report stated.

Police said that during interviews, one of the minors admitted to conspiring in the robbery. That minor was placed in protective custody and charged with attempted robbery. He was booked, processed and released to his parents pending his advice of rights hearing, the report stated.
