Major Power Outage Delays Some School Start Times

Wind and rain caused electrical disruptions around 9:30 p.m. Monday that plunged large swaths of the St. Thomas-St. John District ย into darkness. At roughly 7 a.m., Water and Power Authority officials said electrical current had been restored and that pocket outages were related to conditions at individual feeders.

As a precaution, the Virgin Islands Department of Education delayed the start of the Yvonne Milliner-Bowsky Elementary School and the Ulla F. Muller Elementary School in St. Thomas to 9:30 a.m., according to a letter from the department posted on social media.

The departmentโ€™s website โ€” vide.vi โ€” was not working Tuesday morning and department officials did not immediately respond to emails and phone calls.
