Man Found Dead in Estate Cottage Ruled Accidental Fall, VIPD Says

A 55-year-old man found dead at a junkyard in Estate Cottage on St. Croix died from injuries sustained in an accidental fall, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

An autopsy determined the cause of death was accidental death by falling. The deceased, identified as Guadaloupe Mosquea-Paredes, suffered severe head trauma as a result of the fall, according to the police report.

Police said a concerned citizen contacted the 911 Emergency Call Center at about 8:19 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, reporting a man down at a junkyard in Estate Cottage, Christiansted. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau also responded and observed the body with an injury to the head, the police report stated.

VIPD said detectives are continuing the investigation and are awaiting a next of kin to provide positive identification.
