ATV Operator Arrested After Firearm Found on Norre Gade

A 25-year-old man was arrested Sunday on St. Thomas after police discovered a firearm while investigating an ATV traffic violation on Norre Gade, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

Special Operations Bureau officers were on patrol shortly before midnight Sunday when they observed an all-terrain vehicle obstructing traffic near Nuvo Lounge, police said. Officers made contact with the operator regarding the traffic infraction, the police report stated.

Police identified the operator as Angel Guerrero. According to the police report, Guerrero dismounted the ATV and fled on foot, discarding a satchel he was wearing across his chest. Officers retrieved the satchel and later detained Guerrero.

Officers determined the ATV was unregistered, uninsured and displaying illegal license plates, police said. A handgun was found inside the satchel, the report stated.

Guerrero was advised of his rights and arrested. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, impeding the flow of traffic, operating an uninsured vehicle, operating an unregistered vehicle and illegal transfer of plates, according to police. Bail was set at $75,000.
