St. Thomas Man Arrested After Police Find Modified Glock in Overturned Car

A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police discovered a modified Glock handgun inside his overturned vehicle during an early morning crash investigation, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

Police said that around 4:41 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a single-car collision on Kronprindsens Gade near Jala Jala Nightclub. When they arrived, they found a white Honda Accord on its roof, blocking both lanes of traffic. The driver, identified as Delfi Chanel Rodriguez De Leon, was trapped inside. Officers were able to safely remove him from the vehicle before emergency medical technicians arrived and transported him to Schneider Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

During their investigation, officers said they found a firearm in plain view between the driverโ€™s door and seat. The weapon was identified as a black Glock .40-caliber handgun that had been modified with a selector switch to allow fully automatic fire. It also contained a magazine loaded with ammunition, according to the police report.

After being discharged from the hospital, De Leon was arrested and taken to the Richard N. Callwood Police Command for processing. His bail was set at $167,000 by order of the court, and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing, the police report stated.
